MORE IS MORE

The power plant in Forbach, which has been in operation for over 100 years, is being renewed and expanded, gaining increased storage capacity in the process.

The Rudolf Fettweis Plant in Forbach

Located in the northern Black Forest near Forbach, the approximately 100-year-old power plant known as the "Rudolf Fettweis Plant" consists of four individual power stations and has three main components:
First, a reservoir (the Schwarzenbach Dam), which is fed by several natural inflows and precipitation.
Second, the powerhouse in Forbach, which houses the turbines and generators essential for electricity generation.
And third, the balancing reservoir in Forbach, through which water from the Schwarzenbach Dam flows into the Murg River after being used for energy production in the powerhouse.

Expansion of Storage Capacity

As part of the renewal and expansion of the power plant, the balancing reservoir is being extended to include an underground water storage system in caverns. The processed water will flow into six cavern reservoirs that are yet to be constructed and will then be pumped back up using a pump turbine. The pumped storage power plant will also be upgraded to support this functionality.
